Do not show everything at once

• If you love mountains most, show mountains.

Arrange your images into small stories

A good portfolio is a little like a short walk. Instead of mixing every subject at random, try arranging your images into small series.

For example, you could create separate groups for:

• mountain landscapes,
• forests and nature close to home,
• birds and wildlife,
• macro photography of plants and insects,
• night photography, stars and the moon.

You do not need formal names for every series. It is enough for visitors to quickly understand what you enjoy photographing and how you see the world.

Add a few simple details

A landscape photo can be beautiful on its own, but a short description often makes it more memorable. You do not need to write in technical language. One or two sentences are enough.

You might mention where the photo was made, the time of day, what you waited for or why that moment mattered to you. For example: “Morning mist over the valley after overnight rain” or “My first encounter with a kingfisher by a small river”.

When photographing wildlife, be sensible about locations. Do not share exact places of rare birds, nests, young animals or other sensitive sites. Good nature photography goes hand in hand with respect for nature.

Show the person behind the photographs

People viewing your work also want to know who created it. In your profile, briefly explain what you photograph and what gives you the most satisfaction.

You do not need a long biography. A few simple sentences are enough, for example:

I photograph landscapes and nature in south-eastern Poland. I am most drawn to sunrise light, quiet places and long walks with my camera.

Add a current profile photo, your town or region and a way to contact you. This makes it easier for other photographers, travel partners, local accommodation owners, exhibition organisers or media looking for images from a particular region to find you.

Do not wait for a “perfect” portfolio

A portfolio does not have to be finished forever. You can start with a few of your strongest images and gradually replace or add photos as your experience grows.

This is a good time to show your work to people who genuinely care about photography. Share what is yours: a familiar trail, a nearby forest, unusual light over a field or a meeting with nature on an ordinary morning.

The best portfolio does not always show the most distant places. It shows attention, patience and a photographer’s own point of view.
